ATO outlines plans to upgrade digital services for SMSF auditors
The ATO is exploring options to replace the eSAT tool as part of plans to improve digital services for SMSF auditors.
In an online update, the ATO said that it is looking to provide an improved digital service for SMSF auditors by streamlining reports and aligning it with current ATO digital services.
The ATO consulted with auditors in Queensland last month to understand the SMSF auditor business and explore potential future options to replace the eSAT tool.
The eSAT tool is currently the sole digital channel available for SMSF-approved auditors to carry out annual compliance audits and lodge an auditor contravention report when required.
“Participants assisted to validate and refine current processes, provide feedback on issues and irritants, and explore the future of the SMSF audit industry to identify potential future needs. Participants then collaborated to create future concepts for an improved experience,” the ATO said.
“This research will be used to help shape the future auditor digital experience.”
The ATO recently completed its rollout of new online services for tax and BAS agents, through its online services for agents system, which enables practitioners to view transfer balance account information and access a range of other services.
Access to the new system was extended to all tax and BAS agents in beta mode last month.
