SMSF Association launches 2022 National Conference
The SMSF Association formally launched its 2022 National Conference to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 16-18 February.
The Association’s first physical conference since the 2020 National Conference on the Gold Coast will examine in-depth the many positive changes to the SMSF sector in 2021.
SMSF Association deputy CEO/director of policy and education Peter Burgess said the timing of the 2022 National Conference is highly fortuitous considering the remarkable year the sector is enjoying.
“It has continued to grow strongly and, from a legislative perspective, has been one of the busiest and most significant years on record,” Mr Burgess said.
“Far-reaching changes, such as the new SuperStream rules for SMSF rollovers, director identification numbers, six-member funds, the indexation of the contribution and transfer balance caps, the budget changes, and the new rules for non-arm’s length expenditure will have an impact on most aspects of an SMSF.
“All these topics will be covered and workshopped in detail, so, in my opinion, this event will cover the broadest range of topics presented by the most diverse range of speakers ever assembled at our national conference.”
Mr Burgess, who is the national conference program director, said an “amazing line-up of speakers, the all-stars of the SMSF sector”– will dissect these topics in plenary, concurrent and workshop sessions over the two-and-half-day event.
The conference workshops will allow delegates to drill down into a technical topic with the aid of case studies and classroom-style discussion with peers and experts, with topics including pensions, NALI, in-house assets, SMSF funding strategies, topical audit issues, and cognitive decline.
“This national conference is really shaping up as one to remember. For the first time in two years, delegates will be able to network and socialise in person,” he added.
“At the same time, the sector is enjoying a boom period in terms of growth in members and funds under management; positive changes are occurring at a regulatory and legislative level. I would urge anyone involved in our super sector to attend.”
